I&#8217;m preparing my house for sale. I&#8217;ll miss the place. West Seattle nurtured me and has given me inspiration for some of my best writing.<\/p>\n<p>I was born in West Seattle, raised in West Seattle, educated there through high school, and although I spent years in New York City and San Diego, I had returned there to build a new home I thought I would stay in for an indefinite number of years. My home in West Seattle saw me through the Immunex years when I made some of my biggest scientific discoveries, and it gave me comfort and shelter when I embarked on my fiction writing career.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll still be a Seattle-Area writer in coming years, but not on my old stomping grounds. My new nest is not far away, but I&#8217;ll miss the constant contact I&#8217;ve had with the part of the city that nurtured my best-recieved stories so far, including <a href=\"http:\/\/thomas-hopp.com\/blog\/2012\/01\/28\/blood-tide-published\/\" target=\"_blank\">Blood Tide<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/thomas-hopp.com\/blog\/2011\/10\/22\/the-ghost-trees-published\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Ghost Trees<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/thomas-hopp.com\/blog\/2011\/10\/29\/my-dog-wants-to-eat-you\/\" target=\"_blank\">A Dangerous Breed<\/a>, and my soon-to-be released novel, The Neah Virus.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve got to go meet with the realtor so this note will have to be brief. Perhaps you&#8217;re a denizen of West Seattle yourself. If so, cherish the beautiful place you call home.
